Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Itenary for Erica

My sister is coming next Friday. I tried to squeeze as much as possible into her limited time here. Though Sarah thinks me crazy. It takes me 3hrs to organize this. I'll tell you guys if it works or not!

The Church I Go

Today I’m going to try writing in English for the first time. Cuz Sunday, I think, is the only day I could learn “daily conversation in English” during the whole week. So don’t be picky about my grammar.
Let me start with introducing the church I go, Metro Community.
It’s a church located in the biggest Korean community in NJ. Most people here, including Lead Pastor Peter, are Korean. Actually most churches in US are pretty segregated. So you’ll see a lot of Korean, Chinese, African American and “white” churches located in different area. But we do have people from different ethnics and various socioeconomic status, because one of the core values of the church is to “have the genuine love and acceptance Jesus has shown to people from all walks of life”. For me that’s the idea making Metro so special. Some of the churches I’ve been to, including those in TW, don’t put much emphasis on “Giving and Love to the hurting people”. Instead they care more about the welfare and the proserity of their own church. Here Pastor Peter would interview some volunteers from various charities who take care of the homeless, women in sex trafficking, or who offer help in Zimbabwe and other parts of Africa during sermons. From time to time the church would raise fund for those in need and part of our offering goes to charity care too. And every year they send people to Africa not only as a mission but a service and support. It’s always my belief that we should: Grow as Jesus’ representatives to the world through training, discipleship, and service. (Ephesians 4:12-13) And Metro is one of who are realizing it.
Here comes the most exciting part. In Metro we have a fantastic praising band. Believe it or not, it’s a really “rock band” singing and playing gospel songs. They yelled, shake head, jumping and dancing sometimes like crazy. The music for every Sunday service is always inspiring in lyrics as well as in melody. And Metro also uses plenty of fancy media like videos, poster or cards professionally made almost like those fashionable commercials. All the ministry staff wants to transform the old school church style into a place where young adults could enjoy worship. And the sermons by Pastor Peter and Pastor Sharkey are always touching with powerful message. They speak in such a vivid way with an enthusiastic cadence that would never make you sleepy. Though growing up in a Christian family, it’s the first time Sunday service becomes so “fascinating” to me. No matter how late I stay up at Saturday night, I still don’t want to miss any Sunday service.
So…….that’s Metro, the church I go. Whenever you get a chance coming to NJ, you should check it out!

P.S. Cuz I go with my Korean roommate, Sarah, and some Korean friends in our med school, after the service we usually go somewhere to have authentic yummy Korean food. And that makes my Sundays even better!

I AM BACK

Final exam
so.......
I AM BACK

Here comes the snowman!
